We would like to officially call for entries to Short & Sweet 3D, a night of stereoscopic short films at The Barbican in London, July 16, 2010.

The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2010.

Short & Sweet 3D is an exciting new step for us celebrating independent, maverick, cutting-edge filmmaking in the growing stereoscopic medium. Entries can be anywhere under 15 minutes in length. We are excited to screen a wide variety of content including fiction, documentary, music videos, live action and animation, so send it all in!

Short & Sweet team up with CO2PENHAGEN, the world’s very first carbon neutral music festival.

CO2PENHAGEN is the first festival in the world to run entirely on renewable energy. The music and arts festival took place between 4-6 September 2009. This three day festival aimed to show that it is possible to enjoy all forms of art without contributing to climate change – a thrilling celebration of theatre, art-installation, fashion, exhibitions and last, but not least, short films.

This year, and for the third year running, BAFTA chose Short & Sweet as its official London venue for the screening of all the Orange BAFTA short film and short animation nominees for 2009. This took place on 23 March and 30 March and we were very proud to have guest appearances by BAFTA nominated directors: Tony Grisoni and Marc Craste.

In 2008, Getty Images approached Short & Sweet with a unique brief. They wanted to demonstrate the limitless creative possibilities that their immense archive afforded. Short & Sweet identified a selection of talented, undiscovered film makers, who were invited to pitch.

Four strikingly different ideas were picked and those four directors made their film. The directors chosen were: Laurie Hill, Big Red Button, Jasmin Jodry and Ian Mackinnon & Dominic Parker. They had three months and a budget of £1000 to complete their films. ‘Photograph of Jesus’ by Laurie Hill won first prize.

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Laurie…. He has scooped up all the awards this year for his film; The McLaren Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival, Gold Plaque for Best Experimental Short at Chicago International Film Festival, Best Animation at Tampere and Seattle Film Festival (this award qualifies him to enter the Academy Awards 2010).
